Friday Update: Striker!

    Meet Striker, a soldier with the ability to make it rain rockets! It’s as simple as pressing E to set your target, then once your ultimate ability is charged, press Q to call in the artillery strike.


    It takes 2 minutes for your ultimate ability to charge, but you can speed this up by completing map objectives (capturing a red cube, stealing & capturing a Time Cube & killing an enemy).

    In addition to Striker, this week’s update also includes health regeneration, visible health bars above both friendlies & enemies, as well as an increase to the field of view.

    Changelog:
    Add Striker Ultimate Ability - Artillery Strike by pressing Q
    Add ability to mark artillery strike target using E
    Add Ultimate Ability charge
    Add Ultimate Ability UI
    Add Ultimate Ability UI tooltip
    Change Striker character model
    Add indicator for when artillery strike has been activated
    Add camera shake when player is near explosion
    Make it so completing objectives causes the Ultimate to charge faster
    Add slow health regeneration
    Show health bar of enemy after shooting them for awhile
    Show health bar of friendly when name is visible
    Increase field of view
    Make bullets & explosions add correct directional force to ragdolls
    Ensure map geometry has proper faces for rockets to hit
    Changed font system on player names
    Changed font system on Capture Point markers
    Make it so crosshairs don’t scale with resolution [bug]

    We all found the Artillery strike to be too weak in it's first incarnation (Build 360). So Build 361 has the following changes:

    Before (Build 360)
    Rockets spawn 50 meters up
    5 random positions within a 2 meter radius
    0.25 seconds between each rocket
    Explosion radius is 1 meter

    After (Build 361)
    Rockets spawn 40 meters up
    1 Rocket spawns at center, followed by 5 rockets spawn in a circle around the marker 3 meters from the center
    0.1 seconds between each rocket
    Explosion radius is 2 meters

    Also fixed pressing E or Q when typing chat is now blocked.

    We think of Striker as an attacker, so the next class we want to make is a defender.

    Our current plan is a turret soldier, something like this:

    Higher HP: 150
    Moves slower: 75% speed of Striker
    Press 'E' to transform to/from the turret: Takes 2 seconds, you are vulnerable when transforming
    When not in turret mode, only have pistol
    When in turret mode, have a weapon that is twice as powerful as the SMG, with 200 shots before it needs to reload
    When in turret mode, can't move, you can only turn
    Shield on the front that blocks damage when in turret mode. Probably covers 75% of the body, 100% of the head.
    Ultimate ability 'Q' is to fire a tactical nuke rocket when in turret mode.

    How does that sound?

    We'll also have to add the ability to switch classes. So that requires some extra work. We think this update will take 2 weeks instead of just 1.

    And, with this update, it begins a 'new' concept and more strategies to the game: classes :p Definitely will be pretty fun with more classes

    For me it sounds cool and balanced :) How many seconds will be the cooldown of changing from human to turret? (I mean, you need to wait/charge the ability like Striker to transform into a turret again?)

    You can transform between human & soldier as many times as you want (there will be the 2 sec time that it takes to switch). The Ultimate Ability that requires charging is the ability to fire a nuke when in turret mode. At this point we're thinking it will have the same 2 min charge time.

    It seems like if we have 1 soldier type for each role (Attack, Defense, Support), then we are ready to put the game on Kongregate. Support will likely be a medic, probably with a shotgun.

    We will also need to integrate user accounts like in Time Clickers, that way you don't need to enter a username, and kong can have some stats tracked using their API.

    Random idea for unlocks, you could unlock pre-made symbols (like sprays) that you can send to the person you killed (or maybe that killed you too). So it appears on their summary screen. Could be emotes :mad: :eek: o_O

    And not 100% sure what you mean with the unlocks but it sounds cool.

    How would that work? And you can send only emotes or more things? Even so, it sounds cool :)

    i encountered this . idk if its a bug or part of game . so when i shoot wooden objects , i can hear sound coming from them even after i stopped shooting . it happens only when i shoot wooden objects

    I think the wood shooting sound effect made more sense when there were more wood particles that got ejected (we lowered from like 40 to 2 for performance).

    We've been refining the Turret class idea a bit.

    E = Equip MiniGun/Pistol

    When you have the MiniGun wielded
    - Can't jump
    - Can't crouch
    - Can move, but very slowly

    Still LOTS of work to be done, but here's a sneak peek.

    Awesome!! I love the character models that you made :)
    You mentioned before that this class will have about 75% speed of Striker, that means that when you don't have the minigun wielded the character will move slower (but not as much like as wielding the minigun) too?

    I think so, that's one of those things we will need to experiment with to find the right feel. My guess right now is 75% speed with the pistol & 25% with the MiniGun.

    MiniGun also can't aim down sights. Probably can't sprint either.
