We continued with the movement re-factoring this week, finishing up the first person movement as well as properly implementing third person movement.

Now that we've got the player back in the game we can show off some of his new moves:

We could always jump, but now we have the option to double jump:

Dashing while on the ground will give you a little boost, but Jump Dash will let you cover more ground (great for escaping a swarm of Crawlers):

For those looking for a bit of a challenge, Bunny Hopping is the quickest way to travel through the world (as shown in the first gif).

The goal for next week is to integrate the new movement system with the revised weapons system.

In BeGone & Time Gunners, 3rd person was added in to help debug animations, then we found some people enjoyed playing 3rd person. It was never quite perfect, for example the bullets didn't go exactly where the crosshair was. Now the 3rd person mode is perfectly accurate and high quality. Even the camera movement has momentum to it.

The bullet always comes out of the center of the camera. This gives the most fun result where you hit what you aim at. It does mean you could technically shoot around walls, but I think for a PvE co-op game, this is fine. The swarm won't care if you try to hide by a little bit ;)

This refactoring is pretty major. We are replacing a 3rd party movement and shooting asset we used in Time Rifters & Time Gunners with all custom code. We are already starting to see massive improvements in flexibility and performance.

Another benefit, the previous physics system ran at 50fps. So on my 165fps monitor the game ran smooth, but the arms moved as if it was a slideshow in comparison. Now the physics are framerate independent, perfectly smooth. We had to learn about the math concept of 'e' to accomplish this.

The speed you gain while bunny hopping is crazy!
Nice to hear that shooting in 3rd person is finally accurate :)

Do you have plans of doing this things (3rd person improvements, physics system smoother, optimization, dynamic light changes, grass vegetation, basically all the optimized and better changes in Time Warpers) in the future to Time Gunners?

The new physics feel more arcade-like. And for PvP the 3rd person camera would be a problem. I think it's best to focus on one thing and do it the best possible.

There are lots of little decisions that go opposite ways for PvP vs PvE.
