View Source Video The original plan this week was to work on the red cubes (glow, destructibility, etc). The first step was playing around with bloom to get our world glowing properly. Part of getting the bloom right was experimenting with linear vs gamma lighting. After several tests we decided that that the soft blurriness of the linear lighting was nice but the more realistic bright highlighting from the gamma lighting was better, so we’re sticking with that one. Liner Lighting Test Gamma Lighting Test At this point we decided that enemies were the next priority (putting the red cubes on the back burner for now). We’ve had a few ideas for possible enemy types, one of which was bugs. So we found a model we liked & converted him into voxels. At first our enemy didn't quite fit into the world, but after giving him a shadow & some glowing pieces he blends in a lot better. One of the side benefits of playing around with the lighting this week is that we got to have some fun experimenting with color grading. Most of the filters didn’t match the world we want to create, but every once in awhile we come across one that just clicked. Here are a couple of filters that we think fit some of our gameplay ideas and might make their way into the game. Check out this week’s Imgur album for additional screenshots.
