Here's what the world looked like at the beginning of the week: And here's what it looks like now: We created an optimal scene using PBR, Dynamic Lighting & shadows. These techniques are pretty time consuming to create (not to mention they're performance hogs) so there's no way we could make a whole game in this style (remember there are only 2 of us). The purpose of this experiment was to give us a visual reference of what the world could look like so we could recreate it using more manageable techniques. Vegetation (flowers, clovers & edge grass) was added to make the world feel more alive. The anti-aliasing on the vegetation was tweaked to soften the edge blending. We also modified the style of our red cubes so that they blend in with the rest of the art style. For those that are interested in a more technical breakdown you can check out the Time Warpers Scene Composition album which includes pictures of the Diffuse Textures, Ambient Occulusion, Sunlight & Specular Lighting. Of course we also had to do some weird experiments throughout the week. One of these was to remove the grittiness from the textures giving the world a more cartoony look. We want a more realistic feel so this style doesn't work, but it was still interesting to see the experiment. If you want to see a few extra images from this week's experiments you can check our the Time Warpers - Art Style Experiments album on Imgur.
